Holy basil – this mint family herb also goes by the name Tulsi and is native to India where it is used in teas and food. Holy basil is thought to have an immediate effect on the nervous system. This may be supported by the high rosmarinic acid content of most varieties, which has been studied for its antianxiety action. Stephen Buhner writes about holy basil’s use as an antiviral in his book Antivirals. Certain varieties like Krishna contain a higher percentage of eugenol, which is thought to contribute to the antiviral and antistress properties.*
Ginger – this rhizome is used as a food and medicine in almost every Asian country. It is hailed for its many benefits including those for circulation and inflammation. The ginger in this formula is freshly juiced to provide a more cooling effect than one might get from dried ginger. In addition, fresh ginger is thought to have more antiviral and immunomodulating properties, whereas its antispasmodic and anticancer properties have been linked to dried or cooked ginger. Fresh ginger offers many digestive benefits without being too stimulating or relaxing to the digestive tract. Enjoy the delicious taste ginger imparts on this formula.*

Traditionally blueberries and bilberries were used to help aliments of the eyes, and were said to protect, even improve eyesight, a story that may be attributed to the berry’s high lutein content.*
