Ingredient Spotlight: Each ingredient was selected to benefit the overall formula.

Skullcap – a mint family herb native to the United States. Skullcap is known for its cooling, calming, and restorative effects on the central nervous system. Skullcap may support the body by relaxing tension through its antispasmodic action, and sedative effects may occur at higher doses. Skullcap contains many beneficial chemical constituents including the flavonoid scutellarin, and terpenes limonene, caryophyllene, and humulene.*

Holy basil – this mint family herb also goes by the name Tulsi and is native to India where it is used in teas and food. Holy basil is thought to have an immediate effect on the nervous system. This may be supported by the high rosmarinic acid content of most varieties, which has been studied for its antianxiety action. Stephen Buhner writes about holy basil’s use as an antiviral in his book Antivirals. Certain varieties like Krishna contain a higher percentage of eugenol, which is thought to contribute to the antiviral and antistress properties.*

Bilberry – a member of the blueberry family, this small European berry packs a punch with a high antioxidant and bioflavonoid content. Bilberry’s American cousin is the huckleberry, which you may have enjoyed in the Northern United States. Packed with antioxidants and bioflavonoids these berries may protect against oxidative stress, a contributor to inflammation. Traditionally blueberries and bilberries were used to help aliments of the eyes, and were said to protect, even improve eyesight, a story that may be attributed to the berry’s high lutein content.*

Motherwort – a mint family herb whose name common and scientific names hint to its potential uses. With traditional use as a heart strengthener, the scientific name Leonarius cardiaca seems fitting. Men and women alike may find support from this herb’s ‘mothering’ or calming effects. Motherwort may gently sooth or relax the individual by reducing anxiety in the mind, and by working as an antispasmodic. This herb has a traditional use as an emmenagogue (to invoke a delayed or missed period) and may be useful in large doses, however, in this formula motherwort occurs in lower doses, acting as a supporting herb, selected for its bitter, calming, and antispasmodic actions.*
